The Cube has some very well known power issues with several possible causes and fairly simple fixes in some cases. A large number of people who experience random sleep/shut downs/startups and restarts have found that simply placing a thick piece of paper (like resume bond), some scotch tape or a piece cut from an anti-static bag under the power gasket (directly over the power "switch" on the core) resolved their problem. Ken B wrote in that he even used a few of those loose-leaf paper reinforcements, the round stickers you place over the holes on 3-ring paper to prevent them from ripping out of binders. However, this fix won't solve all problems for everyone. It's free and worth a shot though. Any problem you are having relating to power (random startups, shutdowns, sleep activation, wake-ups) is worthy of trying any of the above-mentioned tricks to fix it.

Other well-known causes of intermittent power problems include: a loose DC/DC card (remove your Cube from it's core and reseat the DC/DC board to solve); a rogue USB device (yes, even the keyboard and/or the mouse can be the culprit, not just hubs, printers and the like); a PRAM battery in need of replacement; a short in your Power Supply Unit (PSU); and the problem could also be related to your Monitor or Display. Take a few days to test all the above theories before giving up hope.
