Stacy Price stumbled upon a great source for replacement inverter boards if your 17" Apple Studio Display (LCD) is afflicted with the dreaded backlight defect.
The defective Inverter causes the top or bottom part of the display to be dimly lit relative to
the rest of the screen. Also associated with this problem is a blinking power light, in the
pattern of two short flashes followed by 1 long flash, which is the diagnostic code for a
Backlight lamp error.
Apple charges hundreds of dollars (literally more than the display itself costs these days) to fix it out of warranty, despite it being a widely reported problem for some time now. So why not fix it yourself!
LCDPart.com|MoniServ, Inc have Apple Backlight Inverters for a mere $129 (as of this posting) and offer their own after-market inverter for about $20 less, which claims "Our engineers had come up with a better circuit design which is a lot more dependable."
They even offer a downloadable PDF with instructions on replacing the part yourself. (attached to this article for your convenience).
